  • This checklist is intended as a guide only for property owners and agents when assessing the condition of residential properties.

• Substandard Property Self-Assessment
  • The self-assessment is intended as a guide when assessing the condition of residential properties.
  • If the self-assessment guide identifies the property as possibly substandard, tenants must make reasonable attempts to raise the issue(s) with their landlord or property agent, which includes issuing written notice to carry out the repairs.
  • Landlords must be given reasonable opportunity to address the issue(s), which includes allowing reasonable access to carry out works.
  • Tenants can seek advocacy and support from RentRight SA.

  • Substandard properties can be reported at www.housingsafetyauthority.gov.au/report a substandard property. Uploading your completed self-assessment will assist the Housing Safety Authority consider appropriate action.
